Witch and Wizard

Aloha,

I'm doing yet another book review on yet another book! Huh, well, I guess this is a book blog. But before I tell you about this book, I want to share something, that I thought was kinda funny. So, we do this reading thing at the library near us, where you have to read a certain amount of minutes this summer. It's due, like August. I got it Monday and I was like, We only have to read about 500 minutes, you cannot be serious. Needless to say, I finished it in like 3 days. It was too easy, no offense to those of you who to reading that much is more of a challenge, but it was. Anyway onto that book. It was called Witch and Wizard and it was by James Patterson. He's a great author, BTW. Let's do that book review now.

This is the cover, just so you know.
To sum it all up: The New Order (N.O.) is passed banning many things. The N.O. is a law kind of. Soldiers come in the middle of the night to get Whitford and Wisteria Allgood, said to be a witch and wizard, though the kids didn't know it. After being sent to jail, then unfair court, sentenced to death, and sent to a prison that is supposed keep them from using their powers, they aren't sure what they're going to do. With Whit to be executed in a month or so when he turns 18, time is running out. But with some help of a lost girlfriend, a ton of kids, and a ferret, they might be able to fulfill the prophecy.

What I thought: It was great. I wanted to keep reading. All of the books by James Patterson that I have read, have been awesome, this one was too! I wanted to know what was going to happen.

Genre: Dystopian (futuristic) I think that's how you spell it.

Number of pages: 320

Who's it for: Middle School, I think

Warnings: It was pretty good, I think it's fine.

My Star Rating: 4 stars

I hope you read it and any other books James Patterson.

Love and witches,
~AJ

Hidden

Aloha,

AJ here, just so you know. The book review I'm doing today is on a book called: Hidden, by Helen Frost. So, here we go!

This is the book cover.
To sum it all up: Wren has never seen Darra, but it's almost as though she knows her. After being accidentally kidnapped what Darra's dad stole their car, Wren hides out in the boat. Wren's all over the news and Darra just knows that she's in the garage, even though they couldn't find her. Darra wants to help the girl. Six years later the two girls end up in Girls Cabin Eight at camp together, but with their complicated pasts with each other, they each choose to ignore the other. Though, it's like they know each other.

What I thought: It was great! I loved it. I read it all today! I wanted to know what was gonna happen. It was good.

Genre: Mystery? I'm not great at placing genres.

Number of pages: 142, it also has a lot of spacing so it's a super short read.

Who's it for: Anybody, I think.

Warnings: None, it was all good.

My Star Rating: 4.5 stars

I hope you read it, or at least give it a chance.

Love and Escapes,
~AJ

P.S. Listen to More Beautiful You by Johnny Diaz.

The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner, James Dashner
This is Carter, hope you find this book enjoyable!

Synopsis: Thomas suddenly wakes up in an odd metal box to find that his entire memory has been wiped. He remembers the basics, such as language, but his parents and where he used to live are a complete mystery to him. He learns that he has been sent to the Maze, a tiny community filled with about 50 teenage boys. He learns that they live in the middle of a giant maze in a place called the Glade. Thomas is  just getting settled in when everything in the glade changes, supplies aren't coming anymore and even crazier, a girl has just been sent to the glade! The Gladers,as they call themselves, must find their way out of the maze before time runs out.

What I thought: A little confusing because you only know what Thomas is told, you don't get any background info, I really liked the book and hope that you do too!

Genre: Dystopian

Length: 400 pages, just enough for me at least

Who's it for: Definitely someone that has experienced reading before. The book is confusing enough that beginners would drop it in a heartbeat

Rading: 4 stars

The book after this, The Scorch Trials is just as good as the first so continue on if you read this one.

Poll Results

Hey, hey, hey.

AJ here. So, I thought you might want to know the results of the poll. The question was: What is your favorite series out of these? The options were: A: Hunger Games, B: Eragon, C: Unwanteds, D: Percy Jackson, and E: Harry Potter. Well, the votes are in.

10% for Harry Potter, 20% for Percy Jackson, 20% for Unwanteds, 20% for Eragon, and 30% for the Hunger Games.

So, the winner is (drum roll please) the HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!

I will admit that I loved those books, hated the way they ended though. The Unwanteds is great as well, fantasy and action, love it! Percy Jackson is awesome too! Greek Mythology is a hit for me, I just love it. As for Eragon and Harry Potter, honestly, haven't read them. I plan to read them this summer, though.

Welp, that's it for me today. I plan on doing a book review later this week, so check it out then.

Love and Hunger Games,
~AJ

3. Sunburn. It hurts so bad. I know, I know what your thinking. She doesn't like sunscreen so that's why she gets sunburned. But, alas, that's not true! I do wear sunscreen, but sometimes I still get burned. Oh, we'll.

4. Those few mornings when I have to get up early. Makes me sad.

5. Ummm.... I don't know if there's anything else I don't like. Summer is so great.

Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone

Hi, this is Josh. Here is the first book review that I am going to do. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone, the first book in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling.

It starts of with a boy named Harry Potter, who lives with his aunt and uncle. He starts receiving letters, addressed to him, from owls. His uncle bring him to a cabin to try and escape the letters, but they keep coming. Then at an old house, a large man comes, and tells Harry that he is a wizard. So Harry goes to a magical school named Hogwarts, and has a big adventure. He makes two best friends named Ron and Hermione, battles a troll, attends the classes, gets on a quidditch team which is a game on brooms, and visits Hagrid who gets a dragon, and many, many other fascinating and magical things.

Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone is only the first of seven amazing books. I would encourage you to read this book and the rest of the series. It kept me on the edge of my seat while I was reading it and it was fascinating and creative.

Genre: The genre of the series is fiction.

Rating: I would rate this 4.5 stars out of 5.

Pages: About 300 pages.

The Hunger Games

Hey this is Avery.  The first book I am going to review is The Hunger Games. Now I know a lot of you have read this book but I thought it was worth reviewing.

In the ruins of North America a great nation has rose called Panem. It is made of the Capitol and 12 surrounding districts. There once was 13 districts, but the 13th started a rebellion. They were defeated by the Capitol. As a reminder to the remaining districts the Capitol started the Hunger Games. Where a boy and a girl between the ages of 12-18 are taken from each district to fight to death in arena. They are selected by a lottery draw. In the poorer districts the more times you put your name in the more food you get. The story begins with Katniss going hunting wither friend Gale. After word Katniss and her sister Primrose (Prim for short) go to the reeping. Where the tributes are determined. Prim is chosen and Katniss takes her place. The boy  Peeta is chosen and they set off to the capitol with there dunk mentor Haymitch.

When they arrive at the Capitol the opening ceremonies costume makes  Katniss known as " the girl on fire." The training continues.

The night before they go into the arena they are interviewed and Peeta declares his undying love for Katniss.

They enter the areana and the games play out as no one has suspected they would.

The 2012 film is based o this book. I would suggest reading the book first.

I would give this books a 5 star rating.

Genre: Destopian & it is Young adult

AJ's First Book Review

Hey Guys.
So, here's my book review on a book I read a while ago that I thought was really good. It's called The Romeo and Juliet Code.

To sum it all up: Felicity was just dropped off at a relatives' house by her parents and they leave her there. She gets the mail one day and notices it's a letter from what looks like her parents. Her Uncle Gideon snatches it out of her hands before she can see it more. Then she learns about Captain Derek who lives in the upstairs room and she wants to meet him. More letters come from the same place and Felicity wants to know the story behind it. Slowly, she and Captain Derek find clues and try to discover the true story behind the letters.

What I thought: I really, really loved this book. It's a mystery that you want to figure out alongside Derek and Felicity.

Genre: Mystery, maybe? I'm not really sure, because I'm not to great at figuring out what genre it is. Sorry.

Number of pages: 296, it's a pretty short read

Who's it for: Umm.... I was thinking maybe middle school. But guys when you see this you think, "Oh, Romeo and Juliet, girly, love story." Well, it's totally not that, you should read it.

My Star Rating: 4 stars

So, that is my first review, I know it's not all that great but I still hoped it got you possibly thinking about a new book to read.

Love and Codes,
      ~AJ
PS. A fun song for you to look up is: Our God by Chris Tomlin
